The statue of Ali and Nino, symbolizes true love, without boundaries and or prejudice. This moving sculptural composition is both uplifting and tragic, inspired by a novel called "Ali and Nino: A Love Story" written by Azeri writer Kurban Said. The male figure represents a Muslim Azerbaijani boy named Ali Shervanshir, and its female counterpart represents Nino Kipiani, a Christian Georgian girl. Their tragic story ends with separation as a result of the Soviet Russian invasion during World War 1 - The Caucasus Campaign.
“Man and Woman” is an 8 meter (26 foot) tall moving steel sculpture by Georgian sculptor Tamara Kvesitadze. For just a brief heart-breaking moment, these two almost translucent-looking steel piece constructions slowly and inevitably pass through each other to form a singular figure. This process repeats every 10 minutes.
